Version 0.9.6.0 – Longest overdue, released on shortest day

December 21, 2014 by Ofer Leave a Comment

This version adds the new ten languages Google translate has recently added. The release focused on fighting the warnings and bugs that have crept into Transposh in the last year.

One may ask himself, if the software hasn’t changed, how comes bugs have crept in? The answer to that is simple, the software does not exist in a vacuum, things change all the time, new versions of PHP added strict warnings which disturbed some users, there were new releases for wordpress and other software component, as well as changed to the almighty Google translate engine. Those changes created situations that current code was not able to handle, but we wish this new version will be a bit more capable of doing.

Other new stuff includes Yoast SEO sitemaps integration (You need to patch it, instructions are in our code).
A small feature to remove useless auto translations (where the Translations were equal to the original strings, which happens when some sites got blocked by Google)
more stuff, the readme.txt file is your friend.

Hoping to get things more up to speed and rolling 🙂

Enjoy.

Version 0.9.5 – The lost upgrade

February 11, 2014 by Ofer 8 Comments

Version 0.9.5 was released not too long ago, and the full version 0.9.5.1 was released as well. You may ask yourself, I am looking for updates in my wordpress dashboard and I don’t see anything, how comes?

This is the exact reason 0.9.5 came to life, there was a critical bug related to a change made in the upgrade api by wordpress 3.8 which made transposh block all updates (including its own) from the dashboard.

So, what to do?

In order to upgrade to the latest full version, there are a few options:

  1. disable the current Transposh plugin, check for updates, update to version 0.9.5 from wordpress.org, activate the plugin, mark “allow update to the full version” and update again
  2. delete your current version of the plugin and install the version from wordpress.org and follow the update procedure
  3. manually download the latest version and just replace the files on your server.

We are truly sorry about this inconvenience

What else is new?
More languages were added to the Google engine, changing the total number to 82 supported languages!

What about 0.9.4?
It was a lovely version, fixed issues with the Google proxy support, we should have written a full post about it too, so 0.9.4, please accept our apology 😉

Enjoy the new version, and don’t hesitate to inform us about any issues

Version 0.9.3 – Where did my flags go?

May 10, 2013 by Ofer 41 Comments

They didn’t go very far, please watch this video or read the instructions below.

What should you do to get them back?

Just upgrade to the full version using the following instructions:

  • Upgrade to the latest version from wordpress.org (which will be the last, there)
  • Check “allow upgrade to full version” in the settings
  • Check for upgrades and perform the upgrade, that’s all!

What’s new in version 0.9.3:

  • Update will work from our site
  • Some bug fixes
  • Ability to remove the rel=alternate which was not always useful
  • (0.9.3.1) We have released a sub version to incorporate the new languages supported by Google, making our total count – 73! (If anyone here speaks Hmong, please contact us)

We hope you’ll enjoy this version.

Goodbye wordpress.org

May 1, 2013 by Ofer 44 Comments

Goodbye wordpress.org
So long, we were the suckers… 🙁

Four years after going to the wordpress repository, and 189,795 downloads later, Transposh will be leaving the wordpress.org repository.

Apparently, all this time our widget had a link to our site, and although it was possible to remove it, this was against the wordpress.org guidelines.

This is a guideline that we can not accept, we believe that we deserve credit for our work. Not less than twitter, facebook, or any other well known company providing third party widgets out there.

We also can not accept the fact that our plugin will be removed without notice, and without any time to make changes, right out of the blue.

We can not accept that messages that we post on the plugin forum will be removed just because the moderators don’t like them, or decide that they are against rules that they have created themselves. Rules they don’t want to reconsider.

They are free to make any decision they like, after all, its their hosting and their rules. Can’t ignore that, luckily enough we don’t have to accept them.

If you want to complain, don’t complain here, try and complain on the forums, but my guess is that you will be moderated, wordpress.org is not a democracy, nor is it a GPL compliant site, everything there must be free, in cost, and in speech, that is the reason you got tons of crippled plugins that only serve as promotion to a pro version. This is also what they suggested that we do with Transposh. And we don’t like it, not one bit.

If a next version will ever be uploaded to that site, it will be a crippled version, (without any links here, for sure) and not the most usable version. The latest version (non crippled) will be served right here on the download page. To which we will now have to add an update mechanism.

Feel free to discuss this in the comments here.

So long wordpress.org, and thanks for all the fish.

Version 0.9.2 – 4 years and we don’t break

March 11, 2013 by Ofer 3 Comments

Lovely tulips
We grew 4 (actually 5) tulips for our anniversary

Yes, it was over four years since the first version of Transposh for wordpress was released. And indeed, we have come a very long way.

Transposh is being used by thousands of sites all over the web, and we have many happy users (and a few less happy ones 🙂 ).

This version, 0.9.2, is not really what we expected to have by now, after four years we would have expected that a version one (maybe even two) will already have been released. But apparently, life does rarely proceed as you plan it to.

The title of this posts actually refers to a new behaviour of our parser, when we used to encounter an   (which should be a non-breaking space) we actually broke the phrase into two, which is rather the exact opposite of what things should have been. So hopefully this is now fixed, and we’ll no longer break!

Other changes include:

  • Basic support for Woocommerce integration
  • Override the case when other plugins or themes cause the process_page to be called prematurely
  • Fix a nasty bug when the same translation appeared in a paragraph more than once
  • Bing have added two languages
  • Fix the bug reported by dserber disallowing language selection on post where translate_on_publish was disabled
  • Update for .po files, Turkish Translation by Ömer Faruk Karabulut

You will enjoy this version! This is an order! 🙂
