Version 1.0.8 – Thanks Julien!

On this special palindromic date, a new version of Transposh is released. This version was held back for way too long but since I finally got the time, it is up and available.

So, what good is it for?

First, I would like to thank Julien Ahrens from RCE Security for his help in detecting of several weaknesses in the previous version, and working with me on providing fixes and validating them. Julien provided me with the information and full disclosure and was very patient with me until I finally had the time to fix everything. I can only give him my highest recommendation, and show my appreciation here. THANKS!

Other things in this version include a fix for the notorious regression with Google Translate, causing people to get [object window] and/or duplicate content. If you are using Google Translate, please use the new button in the utilities tab in order to delete duplicate data. Saving an up to date backup of your human translations is always a good idea.

There are also tons of improvements to the misleading tab called translation editor (which, in hindsight I should have probably called “translation management”) which allows you to have better control and visibility of current translations.

Lots of work here was dedicated to compatibility with PHP8 and wordpress 5.9, I believe that most problems were eliminated, and the widgets should work in the interface again, I want to thank all the users that helped me with testing this, and especially Alex and Marcel. thanks guys!

The next version will hopefully come sooner, I think that I will take development and forums to github or a similar platform. Let me know if you have any thoughts on that.

Version 1.0.7 – rolling again

Yup, this is February 2nd. Which is a good date as any to make a new minor release. This version should work out of the box with WP 5.6 (and probably 5.7 too). And includes some minor fixes for bugs encountered in the last year.

I wanted to thank Fabio Perri for his help with testing this release and for not giving up on Transposh. I guess he will find more bugs soon and a new release will follow.

Next version will probably include some more versions released by bing translator as well as removing of some old and unused code.

Version 1.0.6 – Happy new decade!

Hello everyone, we have released this minor update as we have entered the third decade in which we are operating and supporting this plugin. The path has not been an easy one, and the task of supporting so many installations for free has never been very simple. We really try to get back to anyone who contacts us using our contact form. People who opt to pay for support really get a faster response, so feel free to try this.

If we go over this decade, many things have changed. There are now more languages supported by online translation engines (directly linking to us supporting more languages) and the quality of translation they provide is a bit better. Although still leads to absurd and wrong translations now and than. This decade saw the decline of services providing a free api, but we were able to coup and still provide those services for free.

In the far past we visited a VC trying to get some funding for this project, and we recall the VC that stated that in 10 years – translation will be a solved issue. That specific VC has been hit by #metoo and translation is still not a solved issue. Only shows you that predicting the future is a difficult business.

The most requested features for our plugin, that we might even get done by the next decade are (not in order of priority):
1. Avoiding translation of company names/brands
2. Supporting multiple domain structures (eg. es.transposh.org)
3. Translatable URLs that actually work
4. Better support for ajax and dynamic content changes

Shana Tova! This time its a new Jewish year and a new version was just released, finally updating jQueryUI library to the most recent version. Adding a link to the translation emails to help admins get to the translation editor quicker, there are also some other minor issues related fixes. You are more than welcomed to try this new version and share your thoughts with us.

Version 1.0.4 – Happy new year!

Yesterday we released our new version. The new version is mainly about bugfixes that we collected in the last few months. What is interesting is that the bugs mostly were created by the fact that the world around us is changing. When we started, php was at version 4-5, and now we are at version 7 (with 7.2 causing deprecation for some functions and changes to regular expressions). WordPress was somewhere at version 3, now with version 5 that have introduced new features (and a new quotes related bug which was extremely tricky to find). But still – we adapted, and we hope that the coming year will bring some more new releases and interesting features we will be able to share with all of you.

Update 10/1/19 Please note that php 5.2 is no longer supported. If you must use it please download version 1.0.3.1 or below.
